The West Coast Invitational is usually associated with goggle tans and bikini clad fans, but this year's contest was more suited for early December than May. It was horrible weather but everyone pushed through to the limit.
Red Bull kicked into the equation a new set-up of rail features for the rail contest and some of the up and coming talent in the contest as well. Click the "Continue reading" link below to check out the video from Snowboarder Magazine on the happenings from Mammoth.
The UK's Laura Berry took the 2009 British Quiksilver Big Air Championship title earlier this month with a huge grabbed 360 over the final kicker. "I missed the last two BRITS because of an injury, so this is pretty
sweet," said the ecstatic 20-year-old. "I'm really stoked. It's awesome
to be back and I'm really pleased I landed the 360."
Also at the BRITS, Laura earned a second in Slopestyle and took the win in the free-for-all Red Bull Home Run, the same title she earned last year -- with a broken collarbone. Check out the video below for the action:

On March 14 the battle cry was sounded on Mammoth Mountain as Red Bull Snow Warz, the premiere collegiate snowboarding and skiing contest, took to the slopes to find the best college team on the snow.
Red Bull Snow Warz brought together more than 275 students from 52 colleges and universities nationwide to face off in a unique jam-session format on a one-of-a-kind, progressive slopestyle course on Mammoth Mountain. Riders received points based on style, magnitude, and overall difficulty of tricks performed and were judged by snowboarding pro Zach Leach, skiing pro Omar Otte and 17-year-old snowboarding phenomenon Forest Bailey.
On last Saturday, March 14th the ski- and snowboard scene out of the Allgaeu and the whole Alp-region met in Bolsterlang at the fourth tour stop of the Suzuki Wir Schanzen 2009 presented by Quiksilver. The Big Bäng Bolsterläng attracted the riders with an impressive setup, a veritable relaxed atmosphere and an absolutely hilarious afterparty.
Exactly 101 riders wanted to take the challenge at the big Bäng Bolsterläng and so already in the early morning scores of riders entered the rider's registration at the bottom station of the Hörnerbahn. Last but not least due to the sunny weather, everyone was highly motivated for the upcoming contest.
Having arrived on the mountain, the riders were impressed by the
highly spectacular setup, consisting of a jib-line with a kicker, a rainbowbox and a downrail as well as a big air-line with a huge multifunctional gap-kicker with a corner and a downrail. Here, the various top class riders as well as the young guns found perfect conditions for nearly all imaginable aerial tricks and already in the training highly sophisticated trick variations were shown.
The World Quarter Pipe Championships:
A Celebration of Transition and Fire
Since the late 90s, before the complete redesign and deconstruction of snowboard contests according the needs of TV and the interests of the large corporate sponsors footing the bill, a "world-class" event was created by a couple magazine editors at Waterville Valley in New Hampshire that would forever change snowboarding. On what was probably a gray spring day in March, 1998, the World Quarterpipe Championships was born.
Over the years, snowmobiles have been stolen from ski patrol, inflatable pools have been ridden on the hill, board bags full of beer have been dragged up the mountain, Ross Powers' Olympic-winning board has been thrown on the fire, hotels have evicted everyone associated with the event, and "contestants" have been pelted with snow and ice as they jump a bonfire on the run-in. It was, and still is, a lawless event run by snowboarders for snowboarders. After a three-year hiatus, the gauntlet fire was re-ignited last March at Tim and Chris Waker's Timber Ridge for some much-needed celebration of snowboarding.
Here's a little recap edit that appeared on ESPN.com with coverage of the Red Bull Snowscrapers event in New York City...
With the massive hip set-up, hot sets from bands Valient Thorr, Black Gold, and Anthrax (with special guest Chuck D.), and throngs of awesome NYC fans, Red Bull Snowscrapers is going down as the dopest snow contest to hit the Big Apple.
