Backcountry Bombshells: MFR's Words

270307SB03.jpgMarie-France Roy and crew took it to the backcountry last season for an epic trip of female proportions! Days upon days of shredding untouched powder with some of the best girls around. Marie kept a journal of the trip, chronicling the adventures of girls gone WILDERNESS! Enjoy!

I prefer poo brown. That’s what I said when we had to pick the color of our journals. Yesterday was when I flew in from Whistler to Kelowna. Got to meet Shin for the first time and he was pretty much like I imagined him. Nice guy, laid back and I’m really stoked he’s gonna be our “guide” for this trip. He’s already got the “pimp” status from Anne-Flore.

So after a nice breakfast at the hotel in Kelowna, we started to drive to Monashee Powder where we’re gonna be staying for the next four days.

“Tennis players are pussies,” Kristi says. Anne-Flore the heart breaker would reply: “Noooo!”

I already know Kristi and the French tease pretty good but I was stocked to meet Andrea. Right when I first saw her, I knew she would be good shit! And she is! The entire crew is super fun and it seems like it’s gonna be an amazing trip. We just finished our first dinner and the food is really pleasing my taste buds! This place is really cozy and people here are so nice too.

Now let’s hope for some snow tonight and make tomorrow another unforgettable day.

Monashee Powder is amazing. Sick terrain, awesome ambiance, really friendly cool people working here and unbelievable food. Do you love it? I love it!

It’s been a much better day than all of us expected I think. At least we tried some stuff didn’t work out but that’s how you learn. We tired quite a few different things and we all enjoyed it. I am not experienced at all in that kind of terrain, so I really appreciate the help from Shin whose “babysitting job” is just starting! Ahah. Hopefully he won’t hate us by the end of the trip. But he’s super cool and we are really lucky to have someone that’s experienced with us.

The snow is a little firm but tomorrow should be sunny so hopefully it will be a productive day. My bruised heel really bugs me when I’m riding but I think I can handle it because this trip is too worth it and so fun. So far!!

Bla...bla…bla…good night.

Blue skies and powder. Today was another amazing day!
We actually got some cool shots I think and everyone is stocked. We tried to hit a bit of everything. Going from chutes or mellow lines to cliffs and even some little jump action that Shin nicely built. We are stoked!!

Tomorrow is our last day here and I’m actually sad to leave that place. The people here have been so nice, I felt like at home Monashee Powder is the shit!

We are leaving Monashee Powder today. We woke up to grey skies and started packing so we could get on the road. Had some interviews here and there, branded the lodge and we left saying big thank yous to the staff.

We drove all day in beautiful windy roads. We killed the time with some pretty good boy stores so that made it much better. We got to Selkirk wilderness pretty late but all the staff was very welcoming. We a late night dinner and went to bed. Travel days are tiring too!

March 28, 2007

Woke up to a nice ring bell in the hallway from this lady telling us that breakfast will be ready soon and we can go to a short stretching yoga session first if we want. Eggs Benedict are my favorite was to start the day/ really sunny out; we did some lines all day. Unbelievable scenery here. We got back home for another lovely dinner with everyone.

“Lost in the Sluff.” That’s what happened to Kristi today on one of the lines we first hit this morning. We got really scared for a minute because we couldn’t see her for so long because she was buried in that sluff coming down that steep slope. Luckily, she was all good!

After that we got to hit some jump that didn’t quite workout and then we finished the day with some pillow lines where Andrea killed it and Anne-Flore stomped a sick backslide 3 off step down. We all got shots today so we are stoked. Tomorrow could be our last day of riding here so let’s hope for sun.

March 30, 2007

The last day started with some more lines and everyone was happy. Then it’s time for jumping again. Me and Anne-Flore hit that natural jump pillow things and we both ate it at first but then we ended up the day with a last jump which was really fun as well. We were all really tired at that point though and out attitudes were getting a lil’ grumpy. Time to get back! It was still a really productive day.

We left Selkirk this morning after a good night well decorated with a few games and drinks. We drove to Halcyon Hot Springs. A really nice resort right on a beautiful lake. We got so spoiled! A nice hour massage and a good hot tub session was a good break for our sore bodies. Topped it off with another high class dinner and we are now ready to go to Chatter Creek tomorrow.

April 1, 2007

The drive was pretty long. We finally go there at the end of a windy muddy road where Anne-Flore showed us her rally racing skills!

The Lodge is beautiful. Big log home, really cozy. Te staff at Chatter Creek served us some really tasty lamb and we went straight to bed to be ready for the next day.

First bad weather day of the trip. We have been so lucky with weather it’s crazy. But this morning was so flat light and fossy that it made it a little harder. We still for some sick stuff though. Some cool pillow lines made me really stoked. We just didn’t get to hit much pillow lines at the other places but here it’s a pillow paradise.

April 3, 2007

We were promised it would be a bluebird day today so we woke up and got up there a little earlier today but it wasn’t as sunny as we expected. So we started on some more pillow lines but all of us ate it! It was a good learning experience though. We decided to build some jumps after that and it was super fun. We got shots for sure and we are stoked!

April 5, 2007

We have to leave today. But we have the chance to go heliskiing again in the morning just for fun, no cameras! Wow! That was so fun! We did 5 or 6 runs of untouched virgin snow around the glaciers. So amazing! What a great way to end the trip. We packed, say thank you and goodbye and then head to Banff Springs Fairmont Hotel. Ballin!! That place is pimp! And we all for our own room, crazy!! We all went out for dinner together where I had elk that tasted really delicious. I am definitely ready to go to bed now.

Officially the last day of the trip. Some people left right after breakfast but a few of us got to enjoy the spa at the hotel and that felt really got. It’s so sad to say goodbye to everyone. We had such an amazing time. It was definitely one of my top 3 best trips ever in my life.

Tanks so much to Red Bull and Oakley no one else would have made it that good!!

Shin’s chicken babysitting duties are now over and he seriously killed it. What would we have done without him? Not much! He’s our hero.

Everyone is so stoked on how the trip went and I think we got way more out of it that what we expected. We are lucky bitches!

Thank you!
